Chapter Thirteen

“How did it go?” JT asked by way of greeting the minute Gin pushed her way out of bed the following morning.

“It went.” Gin covered a yawn with a hand as she retrieved her duffel bag and pulled out a fresh set of clothes.

Already dressed and sitting at the desk with a cup of coffee and her laptop, JT frowned as Gin passed by on the way to the bathroom. “That’s not what I heard.”

“Which is not my problem,” Gin called out before shutting the bathroom door.

A long, hot shower washed away the grime, as well as soothing the aches and pains she’d picked up the night before. Gathering her wet hair into a ponytail, she wrapped an elastic band around it to keep it in place and stepped back into the room, holding a thick pair of socks in her hand. She sat down on the bed and pulled them on, ignoring JT’s stare as she reached for her boots.

“What I heard was that there was a blowup with Griffin about the SUV being shot up,” her temporary roommate said in a loud voice. “But all was forgiven when you came up with a major informant inside the compound.” She grinned. “Which my extraordinary deductive powers tell me must be Blair, aka Anthony junior.” When Gin didn’t say anything, JT waved her arms in the air as if she were hailing a passing cab. “Hello? Is it true?”

Gin pulled a boot on before looking up. “The car wasn’t shot up. At least it wasn’t the last time I saw it.”

“And the informant?” JT prompted.

Gin nodded as she wrestled with her second boot. “Your excellent deductive powers are right, and he’s going to help Griffin’s team.”

“And now for the bombshell,” the outspoken agent announced in dramatic tones. “There’s a rumor going around like wildfire that Major Saunders, formerly known as Special Agent Noah Saunders, showed up at the scene, and got everyone’s collective asses out of there before an armed group of Truth Keepers found you.”

“Since he’s no longer in the military or the FBI, Saunders isn’t a major or an agent. He’s basically a private investigator operating his own business.”

JT grinned. “Uh-huh. My boyfriend is in the Marines, and I have two brothers in the army and one in the navy, and I know for a fact that every single one of them would call him Major Saunders.” She stretched her legs out in front of her. “Some things stick with you for life.”

Since all his military buddies still called Trey “Captain Robard”, Gin didn’t bother arguing with that. “Blair had a condition for him acting as an informant on the Truth Keepers.” She stood and stamped her feet several times. “He wants us to find his mother.”

“Geez,” JT groaned. “That’s going to take some major computer searches, and we’re already drowning in them with looking for Jane Doe dead bodies, and missing persons reports.”

“Then you’re in luck,” Gin said. “Griffin made some calls to Quantico last night
